Granite and quartzite are both hard, durable natural stones — but they suit different briefs. Here is how to choose.
Appearance
Granite reads as speckled and crystalline, with strong colour range. Quartzite tends to be more flowing and marble-like, often in lighter, veined tones.
Performance
Both are hard and heat-tolerant. Quartzite is prized when a client wants the look of marble with better stain and scratch resistance; granite offers exceptional durability for heavy use and exteriors.
Best-fit applications
- Granite: high-traffic flooring, staircases, external paving and cladding, kitchen platforms. Tan Brown, Coffee Brown and Absolute Black are the workhorses; Steel Grey and Kashmir White when the palette needs lightening.
- Quartzite: statement worktops and islands, feature walls, surfaces where a marble look has to survive real use. Fantasy Brown is the one most clients point at without knowing its name.
Fabrication notes
Both benefit from calibrated fabrication and finished edges. Sealing recommendations vary by stone, so agree them with your supplier.
